Project Management

Our service includes bespoke design and specification of smoke control / fire ventilation systems, louvred systems to be integrated into the building structure (passive and functional) together with external solar shading systems. We offer a full turnkey service with support design, competitive costing, full project management and comprehensive after sales service.

Our policy is of co-operation and service with an acceptance of unforseen co-ordination difficulties that can cause small delays, which are taken on board without question avoiding the issue of delay notices as can be standard practice by some sectors of the industry. Where there are significant project difficulties outside our control you can be assured of a logical and positive / cost effective solution will be tabled for consideration.

Smoke Control & Fire Ventilation

When fire breaks out in an unvented building, heat and smoke quickly build up, escape routes become obscured and there is the risk of explosion.

The aim of a smoke ventilation system is to release heat and smoke from a building under fire conditions. Smoke and Heat Exhaust Ventilation Systems (SHEVS) ensure that hot gases are constantly removed during a fire. By using the correct size and number of ventilators, in the early stages of a fire, a clear layer of pre-determined depth can be maintained above floor level and dangerous smoke logging prevented.

Pidra supplies a wide range of smoke ventilation and ancillary equipment together with associated daylighting systems to ensure the safety of all types of premises.

Louvre Systems

Pidra louvres provide permanent ventilation combined with weather protection and visual screening. Acoustic attenuation louvres are also available. They can be used to fill openings or to form screening enclosures to all kinds of hvac, mechanical and other plant rooms.

There is a wide range of blade designs to meet different requirements, according to the functions required: maximum air flow, weather protection, visual screening, and acoustic screening (see range selection below). Matching louvre doors are also available for most ranges. All louvre installations are purpose-made and installed by Pidra trained operatives.

Range and Application: PKS Single - Bank Lovures • PKM Multilpe - Bank Louvres • PKD Louvre Doorsets • PKA Acoustic Louvres • PKC Screening Louvres

  • Louvre can be used for a variety of reasons including ventilation, screening, cladding and solar shading.
  • The pitch of louvre used, varies commonly from 30mm to 150mm with the most common pitch being 75mm.
  • Increasing the pitch of a louvre will increase airflow, but will reduce weathering efficiency.
  • Where louvre is used as a "ventilator", consideration must be given to how much rain defence is required, how much air should pass through it, and the systems resistance to airflow, "pressure drop".
  • Louvre is available commonly in single, double, and triple banks. The rule of thumb is the fewer the banks, the better the airflow, but the worse the rain defence. PHPG75 is however, better rated than most other double bank louvres.
  • The commonly used expression "Free Area" is a term used to loosely determine a louvres airflow effectiveness, however, the cd value is a more accurate and meaningful measurement.
  • Where louvre is used to screen off plant etc, it is often advisable to invert the louvre to prevent vision through from ground level.
